Some of you may have seen it. There was an article from Associated Press talking about bottled water. It was particularly focused on Pepsi's brand, Aquafina. Did you know that Aquafina is the biggest bottled water brand?
Do you ever wonder where the water actually comes from in your bottled water? When you look at the nice labels, you may feel the water is coming from way far away where the water is fresh and clean. But the truth is that Aquafina water and many other brands get their water from the same place that you and I get it.
Now, that doesn't mean that the water is full of bad stuff like it is when we drink straight tap water. The water does go through a water purification system. So I would not say that the water is bad but I think we should know we aren't really paying for some unique water.
According to this article, Pepsi will be changing their label so buyers will know exactly where the water comes from...
Aquafina is the single biggest bottled water brand, and its bottles are now labeled "P.W.S." The new labels will spell out "public water source."
"If this helps clarify the fact that the water originates from public sources, then it's a reasonable thing to do," PepsiCo spokeswoman Michelle Naughton said Friday. Aquafina water is taken from public sources then purified in a seven-step process.
The corporate accountability group is also pressing for similar concessions from The Coca-Cola Co., which owns the Dasani water brand, and Nestle Waters North America, seller of Nestle Pure Life purified drinking water, which gets some of its water from municipal sources.
Again, I'm not saying that Pepsi or Coke's water brands are bad. But it is important that we know what we are buying. There are many great water treatment systems that we can put in our homes and we can filter the same water they are using.
I know when you are on the go having bottled water available is great. But next time you are buying a fancy looking bottle of water that seems to come from perfect mountain water, read the label closely to see where it really comes from. You may save yourself some money buying another brand without acl the fancy packaging.
